Lentil stew with Bacon and semolina Dumplings

A traditional Austrian recipe perfect on cold winter days.

Method

Step 1

For the lentils with bacon

Soak lentils and cook until soft (or use 2 cans of lentils). Chop onions and fry in plenty of oil.

Step 2

Dice bacon and fry.

Step 3

Dust with about 2 tablespoons flour and extinguish with vinegar.

Step 4

Add lentils and pour about 250 ml of soup.

Step 5

Add salt and pepper and simmer for about 20 minutes.

Step 6

Add more soup if necessary if it gets too thick.

Step 7

For the semolina dumplings

Chop onion and sauté in butter.

Step 8

Mix all ingredients, add salt and pepper. Season with nutmeg.

Step 9

Leave to stand for 30 minutes.

Step 10

Form dumplings with wet hands and roll in flour.

Step 11

Boil dumplings in salted water for 15-20 minutes. In the beginning, the water should really bubble, then just ripple.
